Why ‘In Vitro Fertilization?’

Why ‘In Vitro Fertilization?’

We are very well aware of the rising stress levels that most of us are subjected to in our day to day lives. While we try our best to cope up with the mechanical life, one of the many things that get affected is our ability to produce healthy and mobile sperms. The reason being, we spend most of our time in front of a monitor focusing on nothing but the monitory gains and ignoring one of the most important aspects of our lives, which is having a healthy sex life. Most of us find it difficult to accept the fact that the need of the hour is to find a suitable alternative that can help them conceive, however, there are a few who are fine with the idea of opting for an assisted reproductive method, the one that can resolve their ongoing issue. One such method is In Vitro Fertilization.

In vitro fertilization is one of the most widespread assisted reproductive technologies opted around the globe for women to become pregnant. It has been proven to be the most effective fertilization technologies with highest success rate helping combat any genetic issues pertaining to a conception of a child.

IVF involves the collection or retrieving of mature eggs from the ovaries and fertilizing those using sperm in a laboratory. Once the eggs are fertilized, they are then implanted in the uterus of the carrier. This cycle roughly takes around 2-3 weeks to get completed. The chances of conceiving a healthy baby by incorporating IVF depends upon various factors. These include the age of the couple involved and the reason for sterility.

Keep in Mind

Apart from it being invasive, In vitro fertilization can prove to be time consuming and equally expensive as compared to other methods of assisted reproduction. It requires utmost precision. One has to see to it that only one embryo is implanted in the uterus as more than one can result in pregnancy with multiple fetuses. It is best to consult a doctor, the one who is handling your infertility case as he is the best judge and can educate you on the potential risks associated with this method.

Types

In vitro fertilization can be achieved using different methods. Here are the different types of IVF techniques used -

Natural cycle In vitro fertilization: Here, woman’s ovaries are not stimulated to produce multiple eggs for collection. Just one egg which is produced as a part of her regular menstrual cycle suffices. This one egg is collected and is combined with her partner’s sperm to achieve fertilization with the hopes of producing a viable embryo. The best part about this type of In vitro fertilization is that it has no risk of ovarian hyperstimulation. Also, the acceptance level of such a method is quite high. It is still subject to the risk of having multiple pregnancies just like the natural conception.

Mild stimulation In vitro fertilization: It is in lines with the standard fertilization; only differences being that the hormones which are used for stimulating the ovaries for producing eggs are used at comparatively lower dose. This is again done for avoiding the possibilities of hyperstimulation of the ovaries. The only disadvantage here is that there are far less eggs available for collection which results in very few embryos available for selection.

IVF COST

The average cost of IVF can range anywhere between $ 10,000 to $ 15,000. In rarest of cases, it might go below the costs mentioned above. These exclude the medical expenses which are attached with each IVF cycles. These range roughly between $ 1,500 to $3,000 per cycle.
